25 Tips for Working From Home

Close to 3 years ago, I decided to quit my technology job to write a book and build my own product marketing consulting business so I could own my time and emotional bandwidth for the week. As an extrovert with a passion for socializing throughout the day, when I transitioned to working from home, I struggled tremendously.

At first, I was ecstatic. I could organize my schedule based on my own needs rather than be on a Monday through Friday round-the-clock on-demand availability schedule with a company. But I’ll admit, with my newfound freedom, I encountered quite a few challenges.

I felt suffocated from the lack of human connection in my first 2 months, and on some particularly hard days, I would bolt out the door ready to engage with just about anyone. I was starved for some human contact after 15+ years of working in a social office setting. The mailman, garbage man, the dry cleaners and anyone else on my block were all fair game. By the end of my first couple of months working from home, they all knew me on a first name basis and knew some details about my personal life (I’m not kidding).
